This is an amazing experience, coming accross this tree. Barely visable from the trodden path way, you make your way behind a large veteran tree and there it sits, like a throne in the middle of all the other trees. Well worth hunting out!
After visiting this tree in the spring, I re-visited in Jan 08, only to find that some of the branches on the west side of the bole had been damaged by the thinning operations in the surrounding larch. Also there was evidence of compaction of the roots. A complaint to NI Forest Service resulted in an apology and assurances that it won't happen again!
Visited the tree 31 March 22. There are a few saplings growing around the tree that might need attention. Beech and various others. Tree still fast asleep.
