Have any tree experts looked at this tree to decide if it really is a giant oak - from the girth, one of the largest in Europe - or possibly 2 or even 3 oaks that grew in close proximity at the same rate, and because of hollowing-out now look like one tree ? Are ther any old detailed maps that mark this oak ?
The landowner has a photo of this tree intact. It looks like one tree of about 8m in girth. The girth measurement of 12.9m is exaggerated by measuring around the collapsed and fragmented remains. It is a great tree but never as big or potentially old as suggested by such a huge girth!
