This tree was measured in 2016 as having a girth of 6.25m@1.5m. I measured it in 2022, when it does not seem to have changed at all, at 7.1m@1.5m. This was measuring across the gap left by the old tear-out. If you measure right around the true circumference of the tree, the girth is over 10m. This tree, having been growing on an exposed ridge on top of a chalk hill with very thin soils (and these conditions have not changed for hundreds of years) is a Category B tree growing in poor conditions: so we would expect any measurement over 5m@1.5m to be considered ancient.
