  • I was amazed to find that the amazing old oaks at Glastonbury hadn't been recorded! They are supposed the descendants of an avenue of oaks planted by druids thousands of years ago (see http://www.welcometoglastonbury.co.uk/2007/12/gog-and-magog.html ). We first visited them in the late 1980s when a wooden fence was all that separated you from the trees. Now there is a hedge - but there's still a way through! Gog is dead, but we managed to find 2 acorns from Magog (she seems very barren) and these were brought back and planted. There is a photo of a fungus - I couldn't ID it - don't think it is Beefsteak fungus?

  • BTW, the grid ref is approximate as there are no features on the ATH map in that area!
