I would think that this is rpobably the largest-girthed wild cherry in Cumbria. It may even be a British champion for girth, now that the huge old cherry in Studley Park is splitting apart and collapsing
Visited this tree May2022, it is in tiptop condition and now has a protective fencing around. Remeasured the girth as 5.1m at 1.8m though the narrowest point is above this and very difficult to measure because of the lumps and bumps. Added info about epiphytes, at least 3 small cuckoo trees. There are 2 other ancient cherries in the garden of the adjacent house, nowhere near as big but still substantial. Will record when I revisit to see this incredible tree in blossom....KMclellan.
