  • A major limb fallen on the ground had Inonotus hispidus fruiting and a white-rotten interior. The internal wood mould was found to contain a rich assemblage of rare invertebrates, including a larva of Rusty Click Beetle Elater ferrugineus (Endangered in Britain and Near Threatened at a European level), elytra of Stephens' Red-winged Cardinal Click Beetle Ampedus rufipennis (Vulnerable in Britain) and the Nationally Scarce false darkling beetle Melandrya caraboides, as well as a larva of a stiletto fly (Therevidae). Quite remarkable.
