  • This is one of a small scattered population of multi-stem sweet chestnuts in present non-ancient woodland to the west of Blackheath Common north of Blackheath Village. The 1871 OS shows that much of this woodland used to be fields or rough grazing, and it's unclear (April 2022) whether these trees are survivors of coppice woodland grubbed up in the earlier 19th century. They are: 228309, 229045, 229115, 229122 and 229236,
