From the blog post about this tree mentioned by original recorder: https://blogbaladi.com/cedar-tree-at-birstall-leicester/ "I had some work today with an Englishman, and as we were talking about Lebanon and places to visit, I mentioned the Cedars forest. He knew of course what it was but it turns out that they have in his hometown back in Leicester the biggest Lebanese Cedar tree in all of Europe. I did some research and found out the symbol of Birstall, the village where the Cedar tree is located, is a Cedar tree. The original and beautiful tree stands in Roman Road. It was once in the grounds of the now demolished Birstall Hall."
From my chat with the house owners: "It is about 85 feet high and has a spread of 35 meters. We successfully grew seeds one year and there is another tree at the foot of our garden now about 30 feet tall. This tree is quite famous locally and has been under the protection of a Tree Preservation Order since the early 1960's. It is Birstall's village tree and is on the Parish Council's logo and the village signs. Its is used to name parks, schools, housing estates and businesses and it has a steel statue constructed at the entrance to the local Park and Ride Bus carpark as a symbol for everyone arriving on the A6. The local infant school visits to measure the girth and at the last count when children held hands around it, it measured 7 small boys and girls. It is home to squirrels, owls and numerous birds, including Nuthatches that nest in a hollow in the trunk each year. A local tree surgeon (Branchwalker) once sat right up in the top of the canopy and had his lunch up there!"
